Charlie Grinker Presents: What Made America Laugh

Charlie Grinker Presents: What Made America Laugh

Hilarious performances and fascinating backstage moments with our best-loved comedians and their comedy crews. Norman Lear, the creative genius behind All In The Family, takes us behind-the-scenes with Archie and Edith Bunker in an unforgettable moment with guest star Sammy Davis Jr. We’ll go inside the NBC studio on Columbus Circle in Manhattan for favorite moments from Your Show of Shows, television’s all-time comedy classic, starring Sid Caesar, Imogene Coca, Carl Reiner and Howie Morris. Their writing crew featured future movie greats Mel Brooks and Neil Simon. We asked America’s most beloved comedians to choose their favorite moments. There were many surprises including Jackie Gleason showing off an unknown kid trumpeter who turns out to be Frankie Avalon. Actor, singer, dancer, writer and producer Dick Van Dyke, the master of slapstick, had a seven decade career to choose from. He chose well. Flip Wilson included two favorite expressions he added to our vocabulary,
The Devil Made Me Do It and What You See Is What You Get.
Other laugh makers include Laurel and Hardy, Charlie Chaplin,
Milton Berle, and our favorite stand-up comic, the legendary Henny Youngman.

What Made America Laugh, Friday, April 27, a wonderful way to start the weekend!
