Charlie Grinker Presents: The President and The Dictator
THE PRESIDENT AND THE DICTATOR
Charlie Grinker presents the unforgettable parallels and contrasts in the lives and deaths of the two most powerful world leaders of the past 100 years.
Franklin Roosevelt gently led his country from the Great Depression into the modern world in which he was the first President to appear on television, first to fly on an airplane, and first to have a female cabinet member.
Adolf Hitler, an ambitious fanatic with unparalleled persuasive powers, successfully led his country out of the same Great Depression into a war he believed would result in a thousand year Third Reich for Germany, a third kingdom after those of Charlemagne and Otto von Bismarck.
We meet these two charismatic leaders as they come to power in 1933 followed by twelve cataclysmic years in which they shape the future of the United States of America and the continent of Europe. As they battle for supremacy we sample the work of two filmmakers who spread their messages to the masses in history’s first propaganda war. FDR’s man was
3-time Oscar-Winning Best Director Frank Capra. Hitler’s clever, cunning expert was Nazi S.S. filmmaker Franz Hippler. They pulled no punches.
We’ll also hear from celebrated Americans Charlie has interviewed who share with us their memories of Roosevelt and Hitler including Tom Brokaw, William F. Buckley, Jr., Bill Moyers, Neil Simon, Beverly Sills, Jonas Salk, Mike Wallace, Studs Terkel, and Sid Caesar.
THE PRESIDENT AND THE DICTATOR has its roots in the EMMY Award Winning Outstanding Informational Series, A Walk Through the 20th Century with Bill Moyers, a nineteen-hour series honored with the George Foster Peabody Broadcasting Award for Significant and Meritorious Achievement. Charlie Grinker was an Executive Producer of the nineteen hours.
